Want to join me in supporting a good cause? I'm raising money for Orthodox Worker and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support. I've included information about Orthodox Workers below.
The Greatest Miracle Is Not Raising the Dead But Rather It is Feeding Those Who Are Hungry! So we feed folks here!
The programs and projects here at the monastery are all mutual assurance projects. That means they are community-inspired, community leaders, and community workers. Supporting the community means you are giving the gift of hope.
BUILDING A BIGGER TABLE Living a simple lifestyle in the community, serving the poor, and resisting social injustice. Orthodox Workers live a simple lifestyle in the community, serve the poor, and resist social injustice. Most are grounded in the Gospel, prayer, and the Orthodox faith, although some houses may be interfaith. Many Orthodox Worker houses are dependencies of the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs. Income for Orthodox Worker houses can come from outside jobs held by members or by cottage industries developed by the community, but most houses survive on donations. Every Orthodox Worker house can use donations of money and/or specific items like food, and clothing, for those we serve. Simply put, what we do is feed folks!
I have been reading in my news feed how all the nonprofits are asking for you to end the year by donating and getting the last-minute tax deduction by donating to them. Orthodox Workers is a 501c3 which means a donation to us is tax-deductible.
But please do not make a donation to us if your reason is tax deductions. We pray that any donations are the result of your compassionate heart whispering in your ear and reminding you that you can help us serve all those whom Christ brings to the monastery's doors to be served and all those He takes us to on the streets. Make a difference right now!
The other thing I read is how food pantries and food banks are reminding you about food insecurity. I am tired of all the 25-dollar words used to try to get your money. Here is the truth of food insecurity. Here is what we know and what we hear from those we serve., those whom Christ brings to us or leads us to. What I hear almost every day is from a mother who cries when she hears her son or daughter as she tucks them at night, saying, "Mommy, I'm hungry." That is the truth of food insecurity.
We work and serve because my mother raised me to be a priest. And according to here, my first job and the first job of all pastors and all churches, and the first job of you is to feed folks. So here we feed folks and invite you to join us in doing just what my mother is still telling me what you and I must be doing. My mother is 100 years old, and I am not going to start arguing with her now. I have learned in my 78 years that she is usually if not always right. And trust me, you don't want to argue with her either.
So we invite all of you to work miracles with us, to become partners in this job my mother tells us is our first job and our only job. She is right. Remember the greatest miracle is not raising the dead, but rather, it is feeding those who are hungry.
Is our goal to end all mothers hearing, "Mommy, I'm hungry." No! But we do want to end what the next mother in the monastery doors hears tonight and every other night.
